Biography:

Jorge Campos Navarrete (born in Acapulco, Mexico) is one of the most notable Mexican soccer players of the 1990s, and before his retirement from the world of football, was considered one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Invited several times to play with the Rest of the World Team against clubs like Real Madrid, F.C. Barcelona, and AC Milan, Campos was a particularly eccentric goalkeeper, known around the world for his trademark neon goalkeeper suits that made him the favorite of children everywhere.

Although usually playing as a goalkeeper, Campos would often make for an effective striker, making him an especially interesting player. Often he would start a game in goal, and transfer upfield later in the match. In the Mexican Primera Division, Campos played for such clubs as UNAM Pumas, Atlante, Cruz Azul, UANL Tigres, and Puebla. He also played in the United States, where he starred in Major League Soccer's first three seasons for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chicago Fire. Besides guarding the nets of his respective teams, Campos was also able to score an amazing 35 goals, including an incredible 14 in the 1989-90 seasons for UNAM Pumas. On the international stage, Campos started for Mexico in the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups as the number one goalkeeper, and went to compile 129 caps for his country.

After leaving both club and country in the early 2000's, Campos became an assistant coach to Ricardo Lavolpe, the head coach of the Mexican National Team.
